Shifthappenshub

Shifthappenshub is a one-person practice in New Plymouth, New Zealand: therapeutic, pregnancy and Indian head massage, reflexology, hypnotherapy, Reiki and Angel Oracle readings. The brief was to present the treatments and prices clearly and let people book online, without the owner managing a diary by hand. The business cards and A-frame sign were printed first, and their QR codes point at the booking page, so that address has to work on launch day. We designed the site from four concepts, built it as a static site with a branded booking flow that hands off to Cal.com, and it is in build now, launching soon, when it will replace the holding page at shifthappenshub.com.

How booking works

From the first tap to a confirmed time.

  1. The massage page on a phone: the heading "Massage, tailored to you", a short introduction, a Book your shift button and a Call button.
Every treatment page ends in the same two buttons: book online, or call. The book button opens the five-step flow.
  2. Step one of the booking flow on a laptop: a numbered stepper, the heading "Choose your treatment" and a grid of treatment cards with a line drawing and a starting price each, beside a summary panel.
Step one, choose a treatment. Every service is a card with a starting price, and the summary on the right fills in as you go.
  3. Step two on a phone: the heading "How long would you like?" above four lengths for a therapeutic massage, each with its price, with 60 minutes selected and a bar at the bottom showing the running total.
Step two, pick a length. Each one shows its price and the bar at the bottom keeps the running total in view.
  4. Step three on a phone: the heading "Add a little extra?" above three optional add-ons, reflexology, Reiki and head and scalp massage, with Reiki ticked and marked as added.
Step three, add extras. Reflexology, Reiki or a head and scalp massage can be added to most massages, and each adds a quarter of an hour and its price to the total.
  5. Step four on a phone: the heading "A few details" above fields for name, email and mobile, with a note that payment is taken at the appointment.
Step four, a few details. Name, email and mobile are passed on to the calendar so nobody types them twice, and the form asks people to keep health details for the session itself.
  6. Step five on a phone: the heading "Pick a time" above the Cal.com calendar for October 2026 in the site colours, with the first available day highlighted.
Step five, pick a time. The Cal.com calendar sits inside the page in the site colours and only offers the hours the practice is open.
  7. Step five on a laptop: the Cal.com calendar with a Monday selected and six start times listed, beside a summary card showing a 60-minute therapeutic massage with Reiki added and the total in New Zealand dollars.
On a laptop the summary sits beside the calendar: treatment, length, add-ons and the total. Confirming a slot books it in the owner's Cal.com diary, which sends the confirmation and handles changes.

What we built

The parts that matter.

  • Designed from a concept the client chose

Four design concepts were drawn up. The client picked one, a sage green editorial layout, then chose a full-image opening from three layout variants of it. The site is built to that design, with its double-rule frames, arched photographs and italic turns in the headings.

  • A five-step booking flow

Treatment, length, add-ons, details, then date and time, with a running total throughout. The choices live in the address, so the back button works, a link can be shared mid-way, and a button on the home page can open the flow with the treatment already chosen.

  • Hands off to Cal.com for the diary

Cal.com holds one event type per treatment, and the site opens the right one at the right length with the name, email and mobile already filled in. The calendar is embedded in the page in the site colours, with a plain link as a fallback. Confirmations, changes and cancellations come from Cal.com, and payment is taken at the appointment.

  • Prices kept in one place

Every treatment, length, add-on and price in New Zealand dollars lives in one file. The home page, the service pages, the booking flow, the search-engine markup and the Cal.com setup sheet all read from it, so a price changes once.

  • Print and web, one address

The business cards and A-frame sign already carry a QR code to the booking page, so that route is fixed for good and the launch checklist ends with scanning the printed cards. The phone number is tap to call on every page.

  • A page per treatment, written for local search

Massage, hypnotherapy, and Reiki and Angel Oracle each have their own page with what to expect, prices and a book button, aimed at people searching in New Plymouth. The business is marked up for search engines as a health and beauty business with its full list of offers.

  • Careful with health information

The owner works from home, so the street address is never published; it is sent after booking. The booking and contact forms ask people not to share detailed health information, which is discussed privately at the first session, and the privacy page is written for the New Zealand Privacy Act and Health Information Privacy Code.

  • Pre-built and fast

Every page is built ahead of time with the images optimised, so it can be served from a static host with no server to go down. Fast on a phone, which is where most people will find it.
